Liturgy of the Metropolitan of Syros at the Holy Church of Agios Vasilios, on Metsovou Street, Athenstranslated

July 11, 2026 · 1 min read

The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Syros, Mr. Dorotheos II, officiated this morning, July 11, 2026, at the Holy Church of Agios Vasilios, on Metsovou Street, supported by the Church's Vicars, and performed the Four-day memorial service of the late mother of the Head of the Church, Archim. Dorotheos Kyousis, blessed by His Eminence Thaumakos Mr. Iakovos and the Theophilist of Christoupolis Mr. Varnavas. During his memorial speech, the Reverend Mr. Dorotheos II referred to the fundamental role of the mother in the lives of people, and especially of Hieromonks, who in her form find support and a fairy tale in their monastic path!

In the afternoon His Holiness Mr. Dorotheos II will go to Mykonos and in the evening he will pray the Solemn Vespers for the holy memory of Saint Paisios, in the Holy Monastery of Panagia Tourliani, in the Chapel of the Holy Neophanes Fathers Porphyrios of Kausokalybitos, Paisios of Agioreitos and Jacob, of in Evia.

May her memory be eternal. It was touching how the Metropolitan spoke about mothers being such a support especially for hieromonks like Fr. Dorotheos—makes you think of all the quiet strength our own moms gave us. Safe travels to him on Mykonos tonight.

Yes, memory eternal. I liked how he pointed out the quiet strength mothers give to monks especially – my own mum was the one who first took me to church every Sunday back in the old days. Safe journey to the Metropolitan on Mykonos.

Eternal memory of her. It's good that the metropolitan emphasized how the mother is a support for the hieromonks - this is probably visible in Father Dorotheos's case by the way he runs the parish. Have a safe journey to Mykonos and a peaceful service at St. Paisios in the evening.

Her memory is eternal. It’s good that Vladyka said about supporting mothers for monks - Father Dorotheus probably had the same thing, since he runs the church like that. Have a safe journey to Mykonos and have a good evening worship at St. Paisios.

The eternal memory of Father Dorotheos' mother. I liked how the Metropolitan talked about the quiet power of mothers, especially for hieromonks - it's like I can see how my mother used to drag me to church on Sundays, without big words. Have a good trip to Mykonos and peaceful evening at the service of Saint Paisie.

Eternal memory of the mother of Father Dorotheus. It’s good that Bishop Dorotheos mentioned how a mother is a support for a hieromonk in the monastic path; many in our choir also say this about their mothers. Have a safe journey to Mykonos and have a good evening worship at St. Paisios.

Eternal memory of the mother of Father Dorotheus. It’s good that Vladyka directly spoke about supporting mothers specifically for hieromonks—we also have one such priest in Yaroslavl who often recalls how his mother took him to church as a child. Have a safe trip to Mykonos.

I agree, eternal memory to Father Dorofey’s mother. In my parish, several monastics also say that mother is still their main support. I wonder if in your choir such conversations often arise after services?
