Thank God for the Patriarchate’s permission to serve after Deicapentaugousto—so good to hear Panagia Sumela and Panagia Faneromeni will welcome worshippers again. I wonder if they’ll have the same candlelight services at Faneromeni like before the pandemic.

At Saint Mary's Parish in Constanța we saw the icon of Panagia Faneromeni, now it is a joy to know that services can be held there too. When we go to church, we also think about those in Turkey who will have the opportunity to serve again.

I remember those same old newsletter photos from back in the 70s — that sheer cliff face always looked impossible to reach. Good they finally got the permission after the 15th; maybe next year some of our Pittsburgh pilgrims could make the trip. Have you ever been yourself, Laura?

Yes, those old parish newsletters really stuck with me too. I still have one from the late 80s with a grainy photo of Sumela's frescoes. Praying the services go smoothly after the 15th. Have you kept any of those newsletters, Laura?

Yeah, those old photos really made Sumela look like it was hanging off the edge of the world. I never made it there myself, but my late wife and I did visit the Faneromeni chapel back in ’98 on one of our trips. You think the Pittsburgh group would actually organize a pilgrimage that far?

Yeah, those 70s photos always made Sumela look like it was carved straight into the rock with no way up. Never been myself, but I’d love to hear if the Pittsburgh lot actually book it next year. You thinking of tagging along too?
