September 17, 2026 · 1 min read

The memory of Saint Ephemia was celebrated on September 16 in Kasamwa, Geita, where Orthodox Christianity began in Tanzania 64 years ago. A Divine Liturgy was concluded by Archbishop Theophilos of Bukoba Chrysostomos with assistants Archdeacons Theodore Mtambazi and Thomas Patriki and Deacon Augustine. Young people from the Settlement of New Geita-Mwanza participated, singing, ordaining, and sharing.

He highlighted her descent from Christian parents and the importance of pious parents for Christian upbringing.

He explained the meaning of the name "Ephemia," which means good words. Indeed, she was adorned with beautiful words, teaching idolaters the words of Christ and adorning herself with beautiful works.

He called the young people to emulate Saint Ephemia in Christian words and Christian life and witness.

Following the celebration, the young people from the Settlement of Geita performed a dance of the Holy Evangelism of Geita.
