Annual commemoration in memory of the priests of Kalymnos during the Italian occupationtranslated

The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Leros, Kalymnos and Astipalaia Mr. Paisios, on Sunday October 25, 2026, officiated at the Holy Church of Panagia Ypapantis in Kalymnos and performed based on the Trisagio program presented by the Holy Metropolis, according to tradition, in favor of the Priests of Kalymnos who participated in the signing of the libel against the then Metropolitan Apostolos in the year 1943, on the occasion of the detachment of the Church of the Dodecanese through the so-called (autocephalus) from the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which was requested by Italy at the time with the aim of the Papacy prevailing in the Dodecanese. The People and especially the Holy Clergy of the Dodecanese were opposed to this initiative of the Italians after the well-known events in Kalymnos, but also in the other islands of the Dodecanese with the closing of the Churches.
