July 19: Saint Macrina celebratestranslated

On July 19, the Church commemorates Saint Dios, who came from Antioch in Syria and lived during the time of Theodosius the Great. We also honor the memory of St. Makrina, daughter of Saints Basilio and Emmelia and sister of the Church's Saints Basilio the Great, Naucratius, Petros Sebastias and Gregory of Nyssa.
The life of Saint Macrina is a living proof that the family, when it walks on the path of Christ, is indeed a "home church" and that its members, through prayer, mutual love and mutual support, are harmoniously led to purity and the Kingdom of God.
Osia Makrina, being older, after helping to raise her brothers, followed, together with her mother, the monastic life, practicing in a women's monastery in Pontus, near the Iris river. As recounted in her life, written by her brother Gregory Bishop of Nyssa, she spent the rest of her life in steadfast faith, deep prayer, rigorous exercise, and venerable works of charity.
She slept peacefully in the place of her penitence, gaining great grace at the throne of the Triune God.
