The Metropolitan of Petra in the Holy Church of Agios Fokas on the island of Kolokythatranslated

July 23, 2026 · 1 min read

Rev. Metropolitan of Petra and Herronissos Mr. Gerasimos presided over the Solemn Vespers held at the Holy Church of Agios Fokas on the island of Kolokytha on the evening of Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

Speaking about the lessons learned from the life of the celebrated Hieromartyr, he emphasized: "We sing to the epithets of the hieromartyrs, as is Saint Phokas: 'Both sharer of ways and heir to thrones.' In other words, the real successor of the Apostles and Saints is the one who treats their ways and way of life. So my dear brothers, we have come here today to honor a great and miraculous Saint, whose honor has been widespread since the first Christian centuries. He witnessed to the love of Christ in his place of origin, Sinope of the Pontus, where he had been made a bishop, taking care through the teaching and the miracles he claimed to do, to confess Christ".

Thanks for the news. Metropolitan Gerasimos spoke very correctly about the "shareholder of means" – this is the key, not just chanting absolutes. St. Phokas from Sinope on the Pontus shows us that testimony is done with life, not just with words. Happy and blessed festival in Kolokytha.

I agree, Branislave, that part about the "tropics of metohos" really hit the spot. And here in Podgorica, in honor of St. Foka, we always say that it is better to emulate his peaceful way than to just light candles. Have you ever been to Kolokita or are you just following the news?
