Double celebration in Kinshasatranslated

July 6, 2026 · 1 min read

The Holy Metropolis of Kinshasa celebrated yesterday Saint Athanasios the Athonite at the Holy Monastery of the same name and at the Orthodox University of the Congo, which bears the name of Saint Athanasius. In the afternoon of the eve, a solemn Vespers celebration was held by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Kinshasa, Mr. Theodosios, and the Divine Word was preached by the graduate of the School of Theology, Protopresbyter Andreas Bukasa, cleric of the Kananga Metropolis. In the morning, a High Priestly Divine Liturgy was held by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Kinshasa and Theodosios, with co-celebrants the Protosigello Archim Gerasimos Belesi who preached the Divine Word and other elders and deacons. At the end of the Divine Liturgy, as every year, a Holy Litany was held around the Catholic Church of the Holy Monastery. The Greek Community of Kinshasa was represented by its vice-president, the Honorable Mr. Georgios Antipas. Afterwards, in the ceremony hall of the Theological School, a celebratory event was held with psalms, hymns and songs, as well as a tableau by the students, with which they emphasized the following:

God created man and placed him in Heaven in the light. But the fall into sin threw him...

It is good to read about the feast of St. Athanasius in the Congo as well. I was particularly struck by the fact that this year they once again made litia around the church and that the students prepared the tabla for the fall of sin. God bless Metropolitan Theodosius and everyone there.

Nice to see the procession around the church again this year, and those students putting together the tableau on the Fall. The seminary in Congo keeps growing. God bless Metropolitan Theodosios and all the clergy there.

Yeah, that procession is always a highlight. The students' tableau on the Fall sounded really well done this year too. Have you been following how the university enrollment has been climbing?

Here in Durrës, I was impressed that this year they did the litany around the church like every time - and that the students have prepared the tableau for falling into sin. Nice that the workshop in Kinshasa is growing. God bless Metropolitan Theodosios.

The procession around the church every year and those students putting on the Fall tableau again caught my eye too. Nice to hear Fr. Andreas Bukasa preached at the vigil. God bless Metropolitan Theodosios and the growing seminary there.

I am glad that they again held a litany around the church, like every year, and the students prepared a board about the Fall. Father Andrei Bukasa preached well at the all-night vigil, it is clear that the cause is growing in the Congo. God help Metropolitan Theodosius.

I’m glad that we held a litany around the church again, like every year. Students with a sign about the Fall - this is always memorable. Well done Father Andrei Bukasa for preaching at the all-night vigil, the case is clearly growing in the Congo.

And this year again the litany around the church and the board about the fall of the students - it's nice that they make it a tradition. I especially liked that Fr. Andrey Bukasa preached at the vespers, apparently the local priests are already well involved. God help Metropolitan Theodosius there.

Yes, I also liked that the Kinshasa students did the picture of the fall into sin – this part of the story of Adam and Eve should never be forgotten. In Elbasan last year we had a similar picture in the Sunday school, but simpler. How did you find the workshop there, Margarita, do you have any news from them?

Yes, the litany around the church is a good tradition, it makes people feel part of the celebration. I liked that the Kinshasa students connected the picture with the light of Heaven – this small detail makes the story clearer. I'm in Elbasan arranging the flowers for Saint Athanasius next week, I hope they turn out as well as last year.

Yes, the picture of falling into sin is always important, especially for young people. In Elbasan, you made it simpler, you say? Here in Kinshasa the students added to it the light of Heaven and figures that seemed to come out of the book of Scripture. Do you know how they prepared it this time, Margarita, do you have any pictures?

Yes, the picture with the light of Heaven and the figures that appear as if from the Bible has made the students of Kinshasa more alive. We in Elbasan keep it simple, with only two or three girls who read the text without much effect. Do you know how they prepared it this year, Vangjel, or did you hear something new from there?

I loved that the Kinshasa students made the scenes so vivid, especially with that Heaven light. We in Elbasan yes, we keep it simple as you say, but last year a little girl forgot the text and blushed like a tomato - it made us all smile. Do you know how they prepared this year in their school, or have you heard any new details from there?
