Day 28 – Day 1 (5-7-2026) At that time, when Jesus came to the country of the Gergesenes, two demon-possessed people, coming out of the monuments, very bad, so that they could not tell what had happened by that way, came to him. And behold, they cried out, saying: What about us and you, Jesus, Son of God? Have you come here before to torture us? But far from them a herd of many pigs was grazing. And the demons begged him, saying: If you cast us out, let us go into the herd of swine. And he said to them: Come. And those who came out, went to the herd of pigs. And behold, the whole herd of pigs rushed down the slope into the sea, and died in the waters. But the shepherds left, and when they arrived in the city, they reported everything, including the things of the demon-possessed. And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus, and seeing him, they begged him to pass from their borders. And after entering the ship, he crossed over and came to the city itself.

This passage always makes me a little sad. Those people from the town are so afraid that they beg Christ to leave their area, even though he healed those two. As if a herd of pigs is more important to them than someone being freed from a demon.

Yes, Milena, that always worries me a little too. Those people saw that Christ is more powerful than demons, but still it was more important for them that their flock should not be touched than that someone should stay in their area and continue healing. It was as if they feared change more than evil itself. Do you think it still happens today?

It also always amazes me how the Gergezen people would rather lose healed people than risk losing pigs. They saw power, but change was more unpleasant to them than evil itself. Today, one sees it around quite often, unfortunately.

Yes, it hits me every time too. These townspeople saw the two possessed men healed, and yet they preferred that Jesus go away rather than lose their pigs. As if they cared more about their routine than deliverance. It makes you think about what we are willing to risk today.

You are right Mark, those people would rather stay with the old familiar evil than accept that Jesus has turned everything upside down. What bothers me the most is that they then simply asked Jesus to leave their area - as if the healing of two men was worth the loss. How many times does one see a similar choice among neighbors or in the family today, right?

It seems to me that it's not just about the neighbors - sometimes I see it in myself too, when I'd rather stay with my run-of-the-mill sins than allow Jesus to sweep me away. It was with me recently with the eternal complaining about working in the kitchen, I preferred to replay it in my head rather than go and solve it with my husband. And you, what specifically bothers you the most about your "pigs"?

You're right, Lucie, those "old boots" are really comfortable until you step in a puddle. For me, it was mainly about putting accounting papers away at home - I preferred repeating in my head how annoying it was, rather than sorting them in the evening.
