Anniversary of the opening of the Orthodox Academy of Cretetranslated

With thanksgiving and praise to the Holy Triune God, the 58th anniversary of the opening of the Orthodox Academy of Crete (October 13, 1968) was celebrated in the Holy Patriarchal and Cross Monastery of Gonia, minister of Rev. Metropolitan Kissamos and Selinos Mr. Amfilohiou, President of the Board of Directors of the Foundation. The Hierarch Mr. Amfilochios said among other things: "With deep feelings of thanksgiving and gratitude we commemorate today the pioneers and visionaries of the Orthodox Academy of Crete, our blessed predecessor, Rev. Metropolitan Mr. Irenaios, as well as the present, respected by all of us, Mr. Alexandros Papadero, the first General Director of the Academy and for many decades a close associate of our illustrious predecessor Mr. Irenaios.

We bless and thank them as they handed over to the Church and the world this Institution of dialogue and settlement, which in the course of its more than five decades of ministry and witness has hosted thousands of Conferences, Symposia, Events, Speeches, etc. from Crete, Greece and the whole world, as it is a Foundation of international scope and scope.
