Visit of parishioners of the Transfiguration of Sotiros Moschatos in Komotinitranslated

July 2, 2026 · 1 min read

On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 1, 2026, pilgrims from the Transfiguration Parish of Sotiros Moschatos, of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, as part of their pilgrimage to Constantinople, visited our Holy Metropolis, accompanied by His Eminence Archimandrite Iakovos Kanakis. They were guided to the Holy Metropolitan Church of the Dormition of the Virgin, where they were welcomed by the Most Reverend Metropolitan Mr. Panteleimon and he briefly told them about the Holy Metropolis and the history of the Holy Metropolitan Church.

The pilgrims, after thanking for the hospitality, left for their destination, wishing them health, strength and every good thing in their lives.

The article writes about a trip to Constantinople, and they were in Komotin. Even Archimandrite Jacob Kanak in 2026 is not going to Istanbul, but to Macedonia? It’s good that Metropolitan Panteleimon met them - without him they would have been looking for a church for a long time.

That's right, in Komotin. In 2026, Archimandrite Jacob is in Komotin, and not in Istanbul - we in Voronezh know that Komotin is in Greece, and Constantinople is not Istanbul for a long time. Metropolitan Panteleimon met them in the church, as the article says.

That's right, in Komotini everything is described in detail. But about “Constantinople is no longer Istanbul” - this is a subtlety that not all parishioners immediately catch. Oleg, which church do you visit most often in Voronezh?

Maxim, the article directly states that they stopped at Komotini on the way to Constantinople, and not instead. Archimandrite Jacob simply accompanied them, that’s all. Metropolitan Panteleimon was great for accepting, such meetings are always to my liking.

Yes, the article is all to the point, without unnecessary stuff. But about Constantinople and Istanbul - an interesting point, Oleg, do you often discuss such subtleties in your parish in Voronezh or is this more a personal observation?

That's right, in Komotin everything is on point. But the year 2026 sounds somehow strange - maybe there’s a typo in the article? Oleg, what church do you most often visit in Voronezh, if it’s not a secret?

Thank you, Elena, for noting. In Komotini, everything is really to the point, without unnecessary things. And in Voronezh, I most often go to the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos on Koltsovskaya Street, where the priest is familiar and quiet, like an old man. Have you been to those parts?

Yes, the year 2026 really looks like a typo, they probably meant 2025 or 2024. People are always warmly received in Komotin, it’s true. And in Voronezh, I most often go to the Church of the Intercession on Koltsovskaya Street, where the service is calm and the priest is good.
