Karoti Evrou becomes a point of reference for the Thracian tradition – Museum the School attended by Aidonidis and Doitsidistranslated

The signing of a Cultural Development Program Agreement between the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Didymoteicho was recently announced, for the conversion into a Museum of the inactive school unit in the settlement of Karotis, the special homeland of the great Thracian performers of the tradition, Chronis Aidonidis and Karyofyllis Doitsidis, where a space dedicated to the preservation and promotion of our musical and folkloric heritage is being created. This new cultural structure aspires to be a point of reference for Thracian tradition, honoring the great cultural legacy left by these leading artists, keeping their memory and work alive for future generations.

On the occasion of this pleasant development, on Sunday 5th of Matthew, the 5th of July, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Didymoteicho, Orestia and Soufli Mr. Damaskinos visited Karoti and officiated at the Holy Parish Church of Agios Georgios.

After the end of the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence performed Trisagio for the repose of Chroni Aidonidis and Karyofyllis Doitsidis. The Commander of the XVI Division, Lt. Gen. Pand, attended the church. Vasiliadis and the Mayor...

Good to see the old school in Karoti getting turned into a museum for Aidonidis and Doitsidis. Their voices carried so much of our Thracian tradition. Nice that the Metropolitan served the Trisagion for them right after Liturgy on July 5th.

It’s good that they didn’t abandon the school in Karoti, but made a museum specifically for Aidonidis and Doitsidis. Their voices still spin in your head when you sing “Thracian Songs”. I wonder if there will be old notes or just photos of the instruments.

Good thing they turned the school in Karoti into a museum, just for Aidonidis and Doitsidis. I liked that Metropolitan Damaskinos served the Trisagion for them right after the Mass on July 5th. Are they going to put the old recordings with their voices on there too?

It’s good that the school in Karoti was not left empty, but was made into a museum specifically for Aidonidis and Doitsidis. I remember how Aidonidis sang “Thracian Songs” - his voice still rings in my ears. I wonder if there will be old records or just photographs of instruments.

Yeah, I'm glad too that they chose their exact old school for the museum. The Trisagion immediately after the Liturgy seemed to me a beautiful and natural gesture on the part of Metropolitan Damaskinos. I think so, they will put old records, otherwise there would be no point in such a place.

I like that they’re using the exact old school building in Karoti where both men studied. The Trisagion right after Liturgy on the 5th felt right, especially with the Metropolitan there. Hope they include some of those old field recordings; that’s what really brings the Thracian songs back to life.

It's good that they chose that old school in Karota where Aidonidis and Dojzidis studied. After the Liturgy of St. Athanasius on July 5, when Bishop Damaskinos celebrated the Holy Trinity for the two of them, it is exactly as it should be. I hope that they will also put some old recordings, because without the voice that tradition is not felt.

Yes, I agree, it’s good that the building wasn’t abandoned. Aidonidis truly has a special voice; I still have “Thracian Songs” on CD at home. I wonder if there will also be records of his stories about village holidays, as he recalled them in interviews?

Yes, the building is definitely worth saving, otherwise there are so many schools like this in the villages that are empty. Aidonidis’s voice really cannot be confused with anything, I also have his CD with Thracian songs lying around. Do you remember in which interview he talked about village holidays? It would be great if such records were placed in the museum.

Yes, Ksenia, it’s really a pity to abandon the old schools in the villages; in our area there are also such ones. Aidonidis’s voice is truly immediately recognizable, especially in “Thracian Songs”. And I honestly don’t remember about the interview about village holidays - maybe it was in some old collection with his stories?
