I wonder what exactly was discussed about the Khalkin school? I hope not just talk, but at least some real steps towards opening it.

I wonder what exactly they discussed about Halki - terms, conditions, or again only “support in principle”? Olga is right, they have been talking for so many years, but there are almost no real steps.

I wonder what concrete steps they actually discussed for Halki – like a timeline or Turkish permissions – because like Olga and Oleg said, we’ve heard the “in principle” talk for decades now and nothing’s changed.

I wonder the same thing Grace mentioned — did they talk any real timeline or Turkish permissions for Halki, or was it just more “in principle” talk again? After all these years it’s hard not to get skeptical. Maybe the meeting with the Holy See will actually move something forward this time.

Interesting that everyone is focusing on Halki, and no one has mentioned what exactly they discussed with the Holy See. Perhaps there is more hope for a concrete step there, and not just "support in principle" as with the Turks for decades.

It’s interesting that you asked specifically about Halki. I read that Elpidophoros mentioned it in a conversation with American officials, but there are almost no details - as always, more general phrases about “resumption of work.” I hope that at least something will change, otherwise they have been promising this for so many years. What do you think, is Türkiye even ready to discuss this now?

It’s interesting that you asked about school specifically. I read that Elpidophoros spoke with the Americans about the return of property and permission for reopening, but everything is again at the level of promises. Do you think that without real pressure on Erdogan, anything will move at all?

Yes, Roman, it was about the school that I asked, because there has been nothing but talk there for years. Without real pressure on Erdogan, I think nothing will change - the Americans promise, but the Turks are playing for time. What do you think, can the Vatican somehow help in this matter?

Ольга Лебедева
Yes, Anastasia, without real pressure on Erdogan, nothing really has changed for ten years. The Vatican, of course, can raise the topic in its meetings with the Americans, but the Turks usually respond with a polite “we’ll look into it.” Do you yourself think what exactly the Americans could do to make the Turks finally budge?
