July 8, 2026 · 1 min read

His Eminence the Archbishop of America, Mr. Elpidophoros, today paid a ceremonial visit to His Excellency Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, in order to congratulate him and wish him every success in assuming his new diplomatic duties. During their cordial meeting, Archbishop Mr. Elpidophoros wished every success in the ministry of the Apostolic Nuncio and especially in the work of further strengthening the long-standing relations between the Holy See and the Ecumenical Patriarchate. The two Hierarchs reaffirmed the spirit of mutual respect and fraternal cooperation that still characterizes Orthodox and Roman Catholic relations, as well as their shared commitment to Christian witness in the modern world.

It’s a visit that’s a pleasure to see. I noted that they spoke again about the feast of Saints Peter and Paul and the delegation of the Ecumenical Patriarchate; this shows that the links remain concrete. Let us hope that this cooperation continues without too much talk and with simple gestures.

Nice meeting. It’s nice that the feast of Peter and Paul and the delegation from the Ecumenical Patriarchate were mentioned again - this really shows that connections are not only in words. I hope there will be more joint activities in the future, and not just visits.

Good meeting, it’s clear that it’s on business. It’s nice that they again remembered the feast of Peter and Paul and the delegation from the Ecumenical Patriarchate - this really shows that the ties are alive. The main thing is that there should be not only visits, but also real common affairs.

Yes, this visit remains very concrete, especially with the mention of the delegation of the Patriarchate to the feasts of Peter and Paul. At home in Lyon, we appreciate these simple gestures rather than big declarations. Let's hope that this translates into real mutual aid on the ground, as for charitable works.
