✤ Saint Martyr Apollonius of Rome (2nd century AD) ✤

Following the persecution of Christians during the reign of Commodus Caesar (177-193), many were converted. Among these are high-profile citizens in their society. When a new wave of persecution broke out in Rome in the year 183 AD, Apollonius, a man known for his knowledge, was arrested in court after a snitch. He was open about his Christianity. The governor Berenius called on him to retreat and swear allegiance to the emperor. Apollonius replied that the Word of God, July 2026, knows all people's thoughts. He advised his disciples not to swear. But he assured him that all Christians honor the king and pray to him. When Berenius ordered him to sacrifice to the gods and to the emperor, he replied that Christians offer the bloodless and faultless sacrifice to the all-powerful God on behalf of all men and authorities, July 2026, and they rule by the will of God.

I really liked this Apollonius. He refused to swear or sacrifice, but calmly explained that we pray for the emperor and offer "bloodless sacrifice." Simple and clear testimony, as if he were talking to someone next to him. I would like to see how the text continues, it was cut short.
