Commentaries on the Sequence of the Great and Angelic Pattern

The present edition consists of three volumes and includes catechetical gatherings of the brotherhood of the Holy Monastery of Mahaira.

From May 1997 until February 1999, Elder Athanasios, then Abbot of the Mahaira Monastery and now Metropolitan of Limassol, in the regular spiritual gatherings of the brotherhood, had commented, with his many years of experience as a monk but also the gift of speech with which God endowed him, the sequence of the Great and Angelic Hermit Shape.

The first volume includes ten gatherings that took place between May 25 and November 30, 1997. The second volume includes twelve gatherings that took place between January 18 and July 27, 1998. The third volume includes twelve gatherings that took place between August 23, 1998 and February 22, 1999.

Thanks for the news. The three volumes of Father Athanasius' catechisms from 1997-1999 seem very useful, especially the commentaries on the rank of the Great Angel Image. I will call Mahera to ask about the price and whether it is also available in Bulgarian.

That sounds like a very thorough job. Three volumes with catecheses from 1997 to 1999 directly from the Machaira Monastery - I am particularly interested in the commentaries on the Great Angelic Schema. I'll ask whether there will soon be a German or Russian translation.

Yes, the three volumes really seem very well-founded - the many years that Metropolitan Athanasios spent as a monk in Machaira are evident in the catecheses. I have already ordered the first volume and am particularly looking forward to the explanations of the angel scheme. I don't know whether there will be a German translation, but a Russian one would certainly be welcome in our community.

Yes, the catecheses from Machaira are really practical because Athanasius directly considered them his brothers. I read the first volume in Greek two years ago and found the parts on the angel schema particularly helpful for my own understanding of monasticism. Have you ever asked the monastery for a German edition?

Yes, Todor, the comments are really to the point - especially the part about the haircut promises. I called Mahera last week, they don't have a Bulgarian translation yet, but they said they would check. If it comes up, I'll share it here.
