Elder Emilianos: The Holy Bible is the greatest gift that God left to man!translated

July 18, 2026 · 1 min read

And one more category of books that I left at the end, because it is the most important for us. Which one is it? The Holy Bible. The New Testament, the Old Testament. Are we reading it? I fear that, especially the Old Testament, we do not read it.

That is where God speaks clearly. There you read: "Thus saith the Lord."

God is speaking. Even the most illiterate can read the Bible. If he doesn't understand it today, he will understand it tomorrow.

I remember, when I was a student, going to a school to be the "teacher"; I the young man to talk to the students. Outside the school door was a lady selling pretzels. How much he didn't teach me and how much he didn't humiliate me! He was reading.

– What are you reading, miss? I tell her.

– The Gospel, my child.

– But do you understand that?

– Um, I second it. I'm reading it a second time and I understand it better than the first time. And if I read it again from the beginning, I will understand even more.

Forgive me, my God, I said to myself then.

- Don't you tell me, madam, do you know that there is also a translation of the Gospel?

– Really, my child, how much does it make? Let me borrow and give it to you, bring it to me.

For example, I really liked the story of this lady. I myself read the scriptures often and I understand more the second or third time, as he said. Unfortunately, I don't read much of the Old Testament, although the gerund clearly tells us that God speaks directly to us there as well.

Old man, and that grandmother with curls also hooked me. I rarely read the Old Testament myself, but she read the Gospel for the second time and said that she understood even more. I think I need to open up more often, although not everything is clear right away.

I also really liked the story of this lady, Levan. I also often read the Gospel, and really, the second time I feel different sentences. And I can't reach the Old Testament as often as I should - what did you find most difficult about it?

Yes, Mykhailo, that grandmother with curls got me hooked too. I also take up the Psalter more often, because there is also "Táde légei Kúrios", but not always everything is clear the first time. Maybe you and I will start reading one chapter at a time for a week and then we will share what we have understood?

I also agree, Ketevan, I like the story of this lady very much. In the Old Testament, the beginning of Genesis was the most difficult for me until I read it several times. Which book of the Gospel do you like the most?
