In an atmosphere of holy emotion, the feast of the Dormition of the Virgin was celebrated, with the old calendar, in the Holy Great Monastery of Vatopedi. After the end of the solemn Vespers, the traditional feast of Saints followed in the Synod of the Holy Monastery. There Elder Ephraim addressed the Venerable High Priests with warm words, expressing the joy and gratitude of the brotherhood of the Monastery for their presence in the great celebration. Opposing, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Patras, Mr. Chrysostomos, addressed the Theotokos, referring to the person of the Most Holy Theotokos and the special place she holds in the life of the Church and in the hearts of the faithful.
The Holy Masses were attended by the Reverend Metropolitan of former Atlas, Mr. Alexios, the Reverend Metropolitan of Ireland, Mr. Iakovos, the Most Reverend Bishop of Eumenea, Mr. Irenaeus, as well as officers of the army, coast guard, navy and fire brigade.
