Argyrokastro Nathanael: The martyrdom of Saints Cyrikos and Iulitis, an invitation to live the Gospeltranslated

July 15, 2026 · 1 min read

Today, during the feast of the Holy Martyrs Kirikos and Iulittis, the Orthros and the Divine Liturgy were celebrated in the Holy Monastery of Genesios of the Theotokos in the village of Doubiani in Dropolis, the prelate of the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Argyrokastro Mr. Nathanael. Clergy and many believers from the area participated in this devotional meeting, who came to honor the memory of the two Holy Martyrs and participate in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.

During his sermon, His Holiness referred to the example of faith, courage and unshakable love for Christ, witnessed by Saint Preacher and his mother, Saint Juliette. He emphasized that their martyrdom is a timeless testimony of faithfulness to God and a constant invitation to every Christian to experience the Gospel with stability, self-sacrifice and hope.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the procession of the holy icon and the holy relic of Agia Iulitti took place, while the Artoklasian Procession followed in the courtyard of the Holy Monastery.

Interestingly, in Drouviani they celebrated a liturgy with the relic of St. Julita. It's a small place and so many people came - it shows that such holidays really attract attention. It's good that the Metropolitan reminded us about the permanence of the Gospel, because it's easy to forget about it in everyday life.

Yes, it is always intimate in Drouviani, but there are a lot of people there, especially when there is a relic. Our church in Hajnówka is also full on such days, although it is usually quieter. I wonder if the Metropolitan mentioned anything about Julitta teaching little Kiryk the faith - that's what always moves me the most in their story.

Yes, the part about the mother teaching her son the faith is the most powerful. In Lublin, more people than usual come to the feast of Cyric and Julita, although without the relics. Do you have their icon in Hajnówka with little Kiryk in your arms?
