The historic "Xenia" of Mycenae returns to civilizationtranslated

The Ministry of Culture is proceeding with the restoration and reuse of the building of the former "Xenia" of Mycenae, turning it into a mixed-use building for the hosting of ancient drama performances by the National Theatre, the State Theater of Northern Greece and the National Opera referred to in the House of Atreides, as well as a sales office and refreshment room of the Organization for the Management and Development of Cultural Resources. The project envisages the restoration, arrangement and overall functional upgrade of "Xenia" into a modern, accessible and energy-efficient building. The intervention aims to upgrade the experience of visitors to the archaeological site of Mycenae, with which the building is located in the immediate vicinity, while it has a privileged view of the Argolic plain. After its abandonment in the early 1990s, the building shows damage from natural factors, moisture and vandalism, consequently it is considered non-functional and requires repair in order to adapt it to support modern operational requirements.

Επιτέλους κάτι γίνεται με το Ξενία των Μυκηνών. Το θυμάμαι εγκαταλελειμμένο και γεμάτο υγρασία από την τελευταία φορά που πήγα να δω τον τάφο του Αγαμέμνονα πριν χρόνια. Καλό που θα βάλουν και χώρο για αρχαίο δράμα, με θέα στον κάμπο θα είναι δυνατό.

Χαίρομαι που επιτέλους θα το φτιάξουν, θυμάμαι κι εγώ το Ξενία έτσι εγκαταλελειμμένο με τις υγρασίες όταν πήγα πριν χρόνια στα Μυκήνες. Ωραία που θα βάλουν και χώρο για παραστάσεις αρχαίου δράματος με θέα στον κάμπο, θα δίνει άλλη αίσθηση στον επισκέπτη. Μόνο να μην αργήσει πολύ το έργο.

Рада, что наконец-то займутся этим Ξενία у Микен. Помню, как мы с мужем там проходили мимо — всё в пятнах от сырости и с разбитыми окнами, а вид на Аргосскую равнину всё равно завораживал. Хорошо, что теперь будет и сцена для древних трагедий, и просто место, где можно посидеть после Толоса Агамемнона. Только бы не тянули годами.

I remember walking past that same damp, boarded-up Xenía building years ago on my way to the Treasury of Atreus — the view over the Argolic plain really stuck with me. Glad they're fixing the moisture and vandalism damage and adding a proper space for ancient drama performances; it should feel right at home next to the site. Hope the café turns out decent too.

Добре, що нарешті візьмуться за ремонт, бо пам’ятаю, як років десять тому проходив повз те «Ξενία» — стіни в плямах від вологи, вікна побиті, а всередині сміття. Вигляд на арголійську рівнину справді сильний, особливо коли там ще й давні трагедії ставитимуть. Головне, щоб не затягнули на роки.

Згоден, Петре, десять років тому воно справді виглядало як занедбаний сарай — я теж бачив ті мокрі стіни і розбиті шибки, коли їздив туди з дружиною. Так, Петре, ті плями від вологи й сміття я теж добре запам’ятав, коли ми з дружиною їздили на Микени років вісім тому. Вид на рівнину справді вражає, особливо під вечір. А ти думаєш, чи встигнуть вони до наступного літа все зробити, чи знову затягнуть?
