Inauguration of the Folklore Museum of N. Vyssatranslated

July 25, 2026 · 1 min read

The opening sequence of the Folklore Museum of Nea Vyssa, which took place on the evening of July 23, 2026, was presided over by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Didymoteicho, Orestias and Soufli, Mr. Damascenes, who in his short speech, among other things, emphasized: "...If Noah's Ark saved life, the Folklore Museum that we inaugurate today keeps alive the memory of an entire village and becomes the bridge that unites the past with the present and the future of this place...". The Folklore Museum of Nea Vyssa is housed in the emblematic house "Godosi", of the priests Chr. Godosi (father) and Dim. Godosis (son), which was kindly donated by their family to the "Stefanos Karatheodoris" Cultural Association of Nea Vyssa, which undertook and supervised the restoration and arrangement of the Museum's premises and the display of its exhibits.

His Eminence, following his greeting, congratulated the President of the active Cultural Association, educator Chr. Stefanakidis and all the members not only because the whole project "came to a happy end" but also because of their young age, their good mood and their love for their country...

It’s good that the Godosis priests’ house was handed over to the community, that’s right. It’s interesting to see how everything was arranged inside - especially things from the life of the old village. Well done for preserving the memory of the village, as the Metropolitan said.

It’s good that the Godosis priests’ house was not abandoned, but given over to a museum. I wonder if the kitchen utensils or furniture from their family were preserved there - just what was always needed in old Greek houses. The Metropolitan correctly said about the bridge between the past and the future; without this, the village will quickly be forgotten.

I agree, Marina, they did the right thing by giving the Godosis house to the community and not leaving it empty. I wonder if the tools of Father Christopher were preserved there or only the dishes and fabrics. Have you been to similar museums in our area?

Yes, Marina, the Godosis house is a whole story, especially when father and son both served as priests. I wonder if they left some church utensils there or just peasant things. And what region are you from, if it’s not a secret?

Yes, Vladimir, the house should not have stood empty, well done for delivering it. I was in a similar museum in Suzuni, where they preserved old tools, spinning wheels, and even icons from a home icon case. Have you visited our Novosibirsk local history department yourself?
