Makarios of Australia: "Even today, in an age of challenges and voyeurism, the priesthood remains attractive"translated

At the Holy Cathedral of the Dormition of the Virgin, in Mt Gravatt, Brisbane, the Most Reverend Archbishop of Australia Mr. Makarios officiated on Sunday, July 19, the third and last day of his pastoral visit to the capital of Queensland. On this day, our Church honors the Holy 630 God-bearing Fathers of the Fourth Ecumenical Council, which convened in Chalcedon in 451 AD. In addition to the spiritual legacy of the Fathers of the Ecumenical Synod in Chalkidon, His Eminence presented before the crowded congregation aspects of the legacy of Saint Porphyrios of Kausokalybitos. The reason for this was the ordination to Deacon of Mr. Panteleimonos Aggelis, who received the name Porphyrios, in honor of the modern, popular Saint of our Church.

Nice that he mentions St. Porphyria during laying on of hands. The saint knows how to speak simply and directly to the heart, so I believe that the new father Porfírios will have a good example from him. Nowadays, it is really not obvious that a young educated person goes to the priesthood.

It is good that he mentioned Ossi Porphyrios at the ordination. When my son reads in school, I often tell him about this saint because he speaks easily. And we liked the words of Archbishop Makarios - that a young and educated boy chooses this path.
