His Beatitude Patriarch of Serbia Mr. Porfirios attended the ceremony on July 17, 2026, in Kalemegdan Park in Belgrade on the occasion of the Day of Gratitude to Parents and Caregivers of Children and Adults with Special Needs, organized by the Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Social Affairs. On this occasion, the competent Minister, Mrs. Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski, reminded that the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia recently adopted the Law on Parents and Caregivers, which for the first time in Serbia systematically regulates the status of parents and caregivers who provide full care to a child or adult with the most severe forms of disability.

With this law, the state for the first time recognizes and institutionally values ​​the daily, round-the-clock and multi-year care of parents and caregivers who have dedicated their lives to the care of their loved ones. It’s good that such a law was adopted in Serbia. Finally, parents who have not slept at night for years with difficult children will receive at least some recognition and money. Patriarch Porfiry said correctly - all people are important, there are no “less significant” people. It wouldn't hurt for us either.
