Piraeus Seraphim: "We honor persons of the present and the future"translated

July 11, 2026 · 1 min read

The Holy Church of Evangelistria Piraeus, in the eponymous Parish Chapel, honored the solemn memory of Saint Olga the Apostle of Vasilissa. On Friday, July 10, the eve of the holiday, the Great Solemn Vespers was held, presided over by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Piraeus, Mr. Seraphim.

On Saturday July 11, the day of the feast, Orthros was celebrated and then the Divine Liturgy, while in the afternoon the services of Vespers and the Holy Prayer were celebrated.

The Chapel of Agia Olga has been rebuilt among the apartment buildings and the work of its construction began in October 1997 with the blessings of the blessed Metropolitan Fr. Piraeus Mr. Kallinikos and the tireless efforts of the Superior of the Holy Church of Evangelistria, blessed Protopresbyter Fr. Marinos Georgakopoulos and his collaborators.

The Church was built on a plot of land donated by the late brothers Nikolaos and Ioannas Tjortzis. The opening ceremony was performed by the Metropolitan Fr. Piraeus Mr. Kallinikos on October 7, 2000 while the inauguration was performed by Rev. Metropolitan of Piraeus Mr. Seraphim on October 27, 2012.

Yes, it is good that Tzordzi's gift and Father Marinos' work were mentioned. I also saw this little chapel between the houses when I was in Piraeus - modest but standing strong. And the words of Bishop Seraphim about the people of the present and the future are really worth considering.

I’m glad that they mentioned the gift of the Tzordzi brothers and the work of Father Marinos - without such people nothing would have stood. Every time I see this small, modest building between high-rise buildings, I think how important it was to start construction back in 1997. And the words of Metropolitan Seraphim about the faces of the present and future sank into the soul, especially now.

It's good that they remind us of the gift of the Tzorji brothers and the efforts of Father Marinos, without that there wouldn't even be this small church among the buildings. I saw him a couple of times when I was in Piraeus, he's modest but standing firm since '97. And what Bishop Seraphim said about the faces of the present and the future is worth thinking about.

I am glad that they remembered the gift of the George brothers and the efforts of Fr. Marinos since 1997. I also see this small chapel wedged between the apartment buildings when I go to Piraeus and it always seems a miracle to me that it stands there. Seraphim with the sermon about persons present and future left me, let me think about it some more.

Yes, I am glad that they mention the land that the Tzortzi brothers gave and the work of Father Marinos since '97. That small parish tucked between the apartment blocks always catches my attention when I pass through Piraeus, it seems impossible that it fits there and yet it remains firm. Metropolitan Serafim's sermon about honoring the people of the present and the future left me thinking, because in the end everything we do is for those who come after.
