The memory of Saint Philotheus the Red, Patriarch of Constantinople and a great defender of the Hesychast tradition, is a timeless invitation to spiritual alertness and self-awareness. By Archim. Makariou Tsimeri (Doctoral Candidate)

The Saint lived in an era of intense theological controversies and ecclesiastical difficulties. With his theological training, his ascetic experience and his support of Saint Gregory Palamas, he testified that the true knowledge of God is not just an intellectual conquest, but the fruit of prayer, purification of the heart and communion with divine Grace. In our time, where information proliferates, communication accelerates and man is often trapped in the noise of everyday life, his example becomes particularly relevant. External power, social prominence, and human knowledge alone do not ensure inner peace or wisdom. The Apostle Paul exhorts us: "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Rom. 12:2).

Silence, as handed down by the Orthodox paternal tradition, does not mean flight from the world, but inner freedom and uninterrupted reference...
