How to Join the Agreed Prayertranslated
“Truly, I say to you, whatever you ask for in prayer, if two or three agree on earth, it will be done for them by My heavenly Father, for where two or three are gathered in My name, there I am in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:19–20).
Yesterday, we spoke about what agreed prayer is—an ancient Christian practice of agreeing to pray for the same matter at the same time. Today, we’ll explain simply and step by step how to join such a prayer on our platform. No special requirements are needed: just a phone and a few minutes.
Step one: Open the “Prayers” section. On orthodoxhouse.com, it’s located at /social/prayers. Here, you’ll find prayer groups—common to the entire Church and created by parishioners themselves: for the parish, for families, for friends.
Step two: Choose a prayer. The easiest way to begin is with the Universal Prayer for Peace. Every day at 9:00 PM UTC, Orthodox Christians from around the world join this prayer: for some it is early morning, for others it is daytime, for others it is late evening—but the words are the same, spoken in the same moment. This is the quiet miracle of agreed prayer: different lands, different languages—yet one heart.
Step three: Add names. Each group has a memorial list for the living and the departed. Enter the names of those dear to your heart: family, godchildren, the sick, travelers. These names will be prayed for by all participants, and your care for loved ones becomes a shared concern. The list can be updated at any time.
Step four: Await the reminder. Fifteen minutes before the designated time, the platform will gently remind you: “Prayer is soon.” You may calmly finish your tasks, find a quiet corner, light a candle or oil lamp—and prepare your heart. If the appointed hour finds you traveling or at work, offer a brief prayer: the Lord sees the heart.
Step five: Stand in prayer. At the appointed hour, open the prayer text and pray slowly, with your own words and heart. Remember: in that very moment, brothers and sisters in other cities and countries are reciting the same words. You are not alone. As the Lord promised, who said He would be present where two or three gather in His name, He is among us.
