July 8, 2026 · 1 min read

The relics of Saint Mary Magdalene will be brought for worship in the Poiana Comarnic Parish in Prahov, between July 10 and 12.

The honest smell will be brought from the Pantocrator Monastery in Drăgănești Vlașca, Teleorman county.

The pilgrimage will begin on Friday, July 10, at 3:00 p.m., by welcoming the reliquary with the holy relics at the parish church dedicated to Saint George the Great Martyr. From 4:00 p.m., the Vigil service will be held, which will include the Akathist of the Holy Myronosita Mary Magdalene, Vespers combined with Litia and Matins.

The liturgical program will continue on Saturday, July 11, with the Akathist of Saint Mary Magdalene, the Holy Liturgy and the Parastas service, starting at 08:00. On the same day, from 19:00, the Sacrament of the Holy Olive will be celebrated.

On Sunday, July 12, the faithful are invited to attend Matins and the Holy Liturgy, starting at 08:00. According to the schedule, the relics of Saint Mary Magdalene will return to the Pantocrator Monastery on the same day, after 18:00.

"We are waiting for you for prayer and spiritual communion," the parish representatives said at the end.

I remember reading about that monastery in Teleorman years ago. Good to see the relics coming to Poiana Comarnic for three days — the Akathist on Saturday morning at 8 sounds worth getting up for. Hope the weather holds so more folks from the valley can make it.

I remember that monastery too — we stopped by once on a trip down south and the nuns were so welcoming. The Saturday Akathist at 8 is early, but I’ll probably drag myself out of bed for it like you. Fingers crossed the valley weather stays dry.

Yeah, those nuns really know how to make a stranger feel at home. I’ll be there for the 8 a.m. Akathist too — coffee will be my best friend that morning. Did you get a chance to light a candle for anyone special last time you visited?

Yeah, that early Akathist at 8 a.m. is rough without coffee. I lit a candle for my grandma last time I was at Pantocrator; she always had a special devotion to the myrrh-bearing women. You planning to stay for the Holy Unction on Saturday night too?
