His Eminence Father Antonie, Metropolitan of Bessarabia, officiated a memorial service on Saturday at the grave of Bishop Partenie Ciopron, located at the Văratec Monastery, Neamț county.
Bishop Partenie Ciopron was the last Romanian hierarch who shepherded the diocese of Bălți before the Soviet occupation in 1944. The moment took place during the visit of Metropolitan Antonie to the Văratec Monastery and reminded of the continuity of the Romanian ministry in northern Bessarabia.
"The canonicity of the Diocese of Balti comes from these great hierarchs of our Church. They, from up there, watch over us, protect us and help us serve God and people."
His Highness spoke about the monk and theologian Partenie Ciopron, as a participant in the War of Reunification, Bishop of the Army and shepherd of the Bessarabian Romanians during the Second World War. Later, he was also bishop of Roman and the Hussites.
