I always liked how the Троицкий собор feels so solid and peaceful inside. Glad Metropolitan Vasily was there for the Vigil — must have been a full house.

The solid feel you mention is spot on – those thick walls and the way the light falls make it easy to settle in for the whole Vigil. I was there that evening and the choir really carried the service; did you manage to get inside or watch from the side?

The choir really did carry it that evening – their “Lord, I have cried” especially stayed with me. I watched from the side near the icon of the Mother of God; the acoustics there are surprisingly good even if you can’t see everything. Did you stay for the whole Vigil or slip out after the litia?

I was standing near the icon of the Mother of God on the left and the censer smoke looked like it was weaving right through the chandelier during the bishop’s entrance. My back was sore too by the end, but that incense still lingered in my coat on the way home.
