October 19, 2026 · 1 min read

The Synod of the Metropolis of Bessarabia on Monday appointed two candidates for the service of Bishop of Balti: archimandrites Nicodim Petre and Dosoftei Dijmărescu. The two candidacies will be submitted to the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Metropolis of Bessarabia in Chisinau, under the presidency of His Holiness Father Antonie, Metropolitan of Bessarabia and Exarch of Plaiurilor, deputy of the Diocese of Balti.

The Most Reverend Father Veniamin, the Bishop of South Bessarabia, and the Most Reverend Father Nectarie de Bogdania, the Vicar Bishop of the Archdiocese of Chisinau, participated in the meeting.

The two candidates were appointed through open consultation, followed by secret ballot, according to the statutory provisions of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

Later, Metropolitan Antonie presided over the consultation meeting with the clerical and lay members of the Diocesan Assembly of the Diocese of Balti, in the presence of the two hierarchs. Following the vote, the list of candidates proposed by the Metropolitan Synod was maintained.
