The Romanian monastery "Saint Demetrius the New" in Middletown, United States of America, celebrated its patron saint. On this occasion, the miracle-working icon of the Mother of God from Kursk was brought to worship.
His Eminence Father Nicolae, Metropolitan of the Two Americas, celebrated the Holy Liturgy on Saturday together with a council of priests and deacons from several Orthodox jurisdictions.
The miracle-working icon of Our Lady of Kursk was brought to the monastery by Archpriest George Temidis, with the blessing of Metropolitan Nicholas of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad (ROCOR).
The miracles of Saint Demetrius the New The Metropolitan of the two Americas presented the life of Saint Demetrius the New and recalled some of the miracles attributed to the protector of Bucharest.
His Holiness Father Nicolae evoked the procession with the saint's relics organized in 1814, during the plague epidemic that affected Bucharest, as well as the help received by the city's inhabitants during a drought in 1827.
"Deprived of any other help, the people once again put their hope in the prayers of Saint Demetrius the New and in the mercy of God"....
