Mother of God Prodromița, testimony of the piety of the Romanian people: Vigil at the Chapel of the National Cathedraltranslated

July 11, 2026 · 1 min read

"The icon of the Mother of God Prodromita is a testimony of the faith and piety of the Romanian people", said the Most Reverend Father Paisie Sinaitul, Patriarchal Vicar Bishop, on Saturday, at the Chapel of the National Cathedral.

"This icon is also a testimony of the Romanian monastic presence at Holy Mount Athos and a testimony of the special Romanian contribution to this center of Orthodox spirituality", added His Eminence, in a statement made to Radio Trinitas.

"The location of the Chapel of the Cathedral of the Salvation of the Nation under the protection of the Mother of God Prodromita was chosen by the Blessed Father Patriarch Daniel in 2011, considering the connection that exists between our country, Romania, which is often called the Garden of the Mother of God, and the devotion of the Romanians to the Garden of the Mother of God on Athos, for the hesychast spirituality of the Athonite type," the Holy Father also declared Paisie Sinait.

The patriarchal vicar bishop recalled the statement of a Byzantinologist that no other righteous people did as much good for the Holy Mount Athos as the Romanians did.
