Love Thy Trillionaires

July 9, 2026 · 1 min read

Last month, Elon Musk became the first trillionaire in recorded history. A trillion requires imagination. It approaches a quarter of total US federal tax revenue. It exceeds the combined net worth of Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, and Jeff Bezos. According to Oxfam, it surpasses the total wealth of the poorest 46 percent of humanity. Money Read more...

Musk is the first trillionaire, but when I see that his wealth exceeds the wealth of 46% of humanity, I wonder what "love thy neighbor" would look like in this case. Jesus spoke of the camel and the eye of the needle, not rockets and endless zero accounts. Maybe it would be more useful to look at what he does with that money, not just admire him.

Helen, I have seen the article and Helen's comment. "46% of mankind" sounds very heavy, but I also remember what Christ said about the rich young man who did not want to share anything. I don't know if Musk will give everything, but it's enough for me to see every Sunday in the church of Larissa we distribute what is left over from our garden to the neighbors. This is "love your neighbor" as I understand it.

I found this very heavy with 46% of people. When I read about the camel and the needle's eye, I remember how my grandmother used to say that money does not go into the grave, but one must still take care of one's family. I hate to judge Musk from Ruse, but will he give to the poor like the rich young man from the Gospel?

Desislava, I was also stuck with the 46 percent - it sounds almost unreal. My grandmother also used to say "money doesn't go in the coffin", but then she added that if you have it, help your neighbor without waiting for them to ask you. I think Musk can give without giving everything away like the young man in the Gospel, just start somewhere more concrete. What would you like to see from him?

Yes, Daniela, I thought 46% sounded like some otherworldly statistic to me too. My grandmother also kept saying "money doesn't go into the coffin", and then she gave me 5 leva each for the neighbor who couldn't buy medicine. From Musk, I would like to see something concrete like funding hospitals in Africa or at least a few orphanages - not everything, but just to start. Would you suggest something more specific to him?

Grandmother Ivanka, that's right - my grandmother also said the same thing about the coffin and then divided the pension. Musk can build rockets, but if he gives to a few clinics in Africa, it will be more visible than all the speeches. What exactly would you suggest to him first - a hospital or an orphanage?
