The books of Ruth and the prophet Jonah were translated into one of the unwritten languages of Dagestantranslated

The Institute of Bible Translation (IBT) has published the biblical books of Ruth and the Prophet Jonah translated into the Ginukh language, one of the unwritten languages of the peoples of the Republic of Dagestan.
The published publications continued the series of translations prepared using the method of oral biblical translation, the IPB website reports.
The presented translation into the Ginukh language is accompanied by parallel texts in Russian and Avar.
A special feature of the new editions are specially created illustrations reflecting Caucasian realities. At the same time, as noted, the artistic design is “adapted to the cultural context of the region.”
The IPB clarified that the main distribution area of the Ginukh language is the village of Ginukh, Tsuntinsky district of the Republic of Dagestan. Native speakers also live in the village of Monastyrskoye, Kizlyar district, the village of Shamkhal and Makhachkala.
In the mountainous areas, the Ginukhs mostly live compactly, and in the plains they live among representatives of other peoples. According to the 2021 All-Russian Population Census, 630 people indicated their belonging to the Ginukh people.
