I always look forward to this contest. Last year my neighbor submitted her short story about keeping a garden journal through the church year and it got an honorable mention. Wonder if they're accepting entries from folks outside Russia this time?

Last year I read one story from this competition about fishing on a lake on Trinity Day - I liked how the author wrote about nature without unnecessary words. As for foreigners, it seems they used to accept them if they were in Russian. Does anyone know exactly the rules for this season?

Last year I also read that story about fishing on Trinity Day - I especially remember how the author simply described how the reeds rustled and the fish splashed, without any beauty. At my dacha near Nizhny, something similar happens. As for foreigners, the rules on patriarchia.ru usually say that they accept work in Russian regardless of the country, you just need to look at the latest conditions.

That's neat about your neighbor's garden journal entry—sounds like exactly the kind of everyday church life piece that fits the contest. I think they do accept international submissions now, at least from what I saw last season. Have you thought about sending something in yourself this year?
