Ivanov explained the dangers of improper handling of a damaged icontranslated

A damaged icon that cannot be restored should not be thrown away with regular trash. In this case, the shrine must be set on fire or transferred to an Orthodox church. Deputy Chairman of the World Russian People's Council, Chairman of the All-Russian public movement “Orthodox Russia” Mikhail Ivanov told Life.ru about this.

If, when dropped or carried, only the protective glass breaks, but the image itself remains intact, it is enough to install a new one. After this, you can continue to pray in front of the icon. For more serious damage, you must first find out whether the shrine can be restored.

Ivanov explained that a cracked icon, an image with peeling paint or damaged paper base can be shown to specialists. The condition of the shrine can be assessed in icon painting workshops at large churches and monasteries. Professional restoration in some cases allows you to restore even a significantly damaged image.

If restoration is impossible, the icon cannot be thrown into a trash container, since such treatment of the shrine is considered a sign of disrespect.…
