Jordan prepares to celebrate 2,000 years since the Baptism of the Lord: New facilities will be built for pilgrimstranslated

The Jordanian government has signed four agreements for the development of the area where Jesus Christ was baptized, as part of the preparations for the celebration of 2,000 years since the Baptism of the Lord, in 2030.

The documents were signed on Wednesday, at the headquarters of the Jordanian Government in Amman, after the first meeting of the National Committee for the Preparation of the Celebration of the Second Millennium of the Baptism of the Lord, chaired by the Prime Minister of Jordan, Jafar Hassan.

His Holiness Father Hristofor, Archbishop of Kyriakoupolis (Patriarchy of Jerusalem) is also part of the committee.

The projects will take place on approximately 140 hectares of land adjacent to the Al-Maghtas site, the site where Jesus Christ was baptized, and aim to both protect the religious and historical character of the area and enhance the pilgrim experience.
