An old book exhibition dedicated to the 1400th anniversary of the composition of the Akathist Hymn will be inaugurated in the Capitaltranslated

The Library of the Holy Synod and the "Carol I" Central University Library (BCU) will inaugurate on Thursday, September 24, a book exhibition dedicated to the 1400th anniversary of the composition of the Akathist Hymn of the Mother of God.

Entitled "Byzantium after Byzantium. The Akathist Hymn of the Mother of God reflected in old prints", the exhibition will be opened in the presence of university professor Dr. Mireille Rădoi, General Director of the "Carol I" Central University Library, and Archim. Policarp Chițulescu, Director of the Holy Synod Library.

Old Romanian, Greek and Slavonic prints will be exhibited, in 22 editions from 11 printing centers, which illustrate the tradition, circulation and reception of the Akathist Hymn of the Mother of God in the Romanian territories.

The selected exhibits also represent important testimonies about the preservation and transmission of the Orthodox Christian faith, about the history of printing, the book and written culture in the Romanian and European space, the organizers say.

The event takes place on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 12:00, in the "Carol I" Hall of BCU in Str. Dem. I. Dobrescu no. 1.
