Greek Communist Party leader visited Ionian Center of Metropolis of Nea Ionia

Dimitris Koutsoumbas, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), visited the Ionian Center of the Holy Metropolis of Nea Ionia, Philadelphia, Heraklion, and Chalcedon on Saturday, November 7, 2026, where he was warmly welcomed by Metropolitan Gabriel.

During the reception, Metropolitan Gabriel greeted Koutsoumbas with the words, “We welcome our good neighbor,” referring to the Ionian Center’s proximity to the headquarters of the KKE Central Committee in Perissos, Nea Ionia.

Metropolitan Gabriel then guided the KKE leader through the Center’s facilities, presenting the vision behind the project, its architectural design, organizational structure, and the various opportunities offered by its modern infrastructure.

Particular attention was given to the newly constructed Church of Saint George of Neapolis, patron saint of the Holy Metropolis, where his incorrupt holy relics are now enshrined.

The tour also included the Center for Culture and Youth, the modern amphitheater, the library, and the Center’s educational and social facilities.
