Today is the day of memory of the Russian writer, corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences Ivan Aleksandrovich Goncharov.

He was born on June 6, 1812 in Simbirsk into a merchant family. He received his initial education at a private boarding school, then studied at the Moscow Commercial School and at the verbal department of Moscow University.
