"It shows us the perspective in which we must look at least the beginning of the church year, if not our whole life," Bishop John Cassian of Canada said of the cross.

The hierarch celebrated the Holy Liturgy on Monday at the Cathedral of "Saints Emperors Constantine and Helena and Saint Pious Parascheva" in Edmonton, Alberta, where he explained that placing the celebration of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross at the beginning of the church year puts before the faithful the center of the redemptive work of Christ.

"The Church reminds us of the essential, important, significant moments of our Christian tradition and of our spiritual, spiritual life. Beyond the historical dimension of the celebration, at its center remains the fundamental truth of the Christian faith: Christ is the One who sacrifices Himself for us on the Cross."

At the same time, the Bishop of Canada showed that the history of salvation gradually discovers the limits of man who tries to find his own way to God.
