Dolj: Several tombs from the Roman era were discovered on the banks of the Danubetranslated

Several cremation graves from the 2nd-3rd centuries were recently discovered following the excavations carried out in the village of Desa, Dolj county, on the banks of the Danube.
The research was carried out by the archaeologists of the Oltenia Museum in Craiova, at the point called "La Ruptură", where the vestiges of a necropolis were identified over time.
The most important discovery of the 2026 excavation campaign is a tomb with a sarcophagus-type layout, provided with a gable roof, presenting a particularly important structure from an archaeological point of view.
Bones were found inside, and among the objects recovered from the excavations are jugs, vases and bronze coins.
A place with a rich history Cosmin Vasile, the president of the Dolj County Council, explained, in a post on the Facebook page, that these vestiges provide clues about the funeral rituals of the local community.
"Through their burial structure and inventory, they provide important information about the funerary practices and beliefs of the community that inhabited this area nearly two millennia ago."
