Vârful Pop Ivan... that's near where my cousin took my daughter hiking in 1998. She said the views over Maramureș were like looking into a church fresco—so much peace. Glad they're putting up these refuges now.

St. Michael's near Sighetu has those frescoes you mention—I climbed the path below it with my son last fall and saw the bell tower through the trees. But the new shelter's at Pop Ivan, way above the valley where the churches are.
