Constanța County Council proposes to set up a museum dedicated to early Christianity on a plot of land where a hypogeum tomb was discovered.
According to the county council, the exceptional value of the discovery determined the initiation of the classification procedure in the List of Historical Monuments, category A - monuments of national interest.
The institution exercised its right of pre-emption and purchased the land on which the tomb was discovered.
"The next objective is to attract European funding for the preservation and enhancement of the site and for the creation of a museum dedicated to early Christianity in Dobrogea," states the quoted source.
A unique discovery In the announcement of the archaeological discovery, the representatives of the Museum of National History and Archeology Constanța mentioned that "the monument represents a unique discovery in the area of Dobrogea, standing out for its architecture and construction technique reminiscent of catacomb tombs, provided with niches for depositing the deceased (known as arcosolia)".
