Church of Greece: Standing Holy Synod on Sinai Monastery concludes today without announcements

The extraordinary meeting of the Standing Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, convened in response to developments concerning St. Catherine’s Monastery on Mount Sinai, concluded without any announcements or official briefing.

The Synodal Hierarchs left the Synodal Headquarters shortly before 2:00 p.m. Greece time without making any statements.

Notably, the meeting was also attended by the Secretary General for Religious Affairs at the Ministry of Education, Giorgos Kalantzis, who remained for approximately one hour and briefed the Standing Holy Synod on developments surrounding the critical issue of the future of St. Catherine’s Monastery.

As the Church awaits a ruling by Egypt’s Supreme Court of Cassation concerning the monastery’s legal status, the Church of Greece convened to discuss the current situation and possible outcomes at this critical juncture for the historic Orthodox monastery.
