It’s good they’re pushing for ethical investment instead of just talking about it. The part about getting young people more involved caught my eye — our youth group here has been trying to figure out where our parish savings are actually going, and this gives me some ideas to bring up at the next meeting.

It's good that they moved from the story to a concrete call for ethical investments. The part about the involvement of young people is particularly interesting to me - our parish youth here in Kragujevac are asking where the church money is kept, so I would show them this declaration. Maybe we should try something similar here.

Our youth group tried the same thing last year with our parish savings and found out a chunk was in a fund that had ties to mining companies not exactly gentle on the land. It’s encouraging to see this declaration actually name that and push for concrete checks. What ideas are you planning to bring to your next meeting?

You noticed that part about young people well, Jelena. Our parish children in Podgorica are also asking for money, and this declaration from Nairobi could give them a concrete example of what they should be looking for. Maybe I should send a couple of copies to our priest so we can see how we can start it here.

Our youth group ran into the exact same thing with our parish account last year—turns out part of it was tied up in an agriculture fund that cleared forest for palm oil. We switched to a screened Catholic fund after that. What checks did your group end up putting in place before the next deposit?
