Library hour “Spiritual Heritage of Skaryna”translated

On October 23, at the spiritual and educational center of the Polotsk diocese for students of grade 5 “B” of the educational institution “Polotsk State Gymnasium No. 1 named after F. Skaryna” a library hour “Spiritual Heritage of Skaryna” was held. The librarian of the parish of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Novopolotsk, Olga Bakunovich, was invited to the event.

At the beginning of the library hour, the Center's methodologist Valentina Ivanovna Treshchenok reminded the schoolchildren that printed books are wisdom accumulated over centuries. Thoughtful reading of spiritual literature helps a person understand himself, find guidance in difficult situations and answer life’s most important questions.

The parish librarian Olga Bakunovich introduced the children to various versions of the biography of the pioneer printer Skaryna and told that the oldest cleric of the Polotsk diocese, Archpriest Mikhail Ulyakhin, had been researching this topic for many years and wrote a dissertation “George Skorina and his works on the study of the Bible.”

At the end of the event there was an educational quiz. The high school students remembered that in Polotsk the following were named after Skorina: a square, an avenue, a street, a central library, a gymnasium No. 1, and a printing house.
