As Sight Loss Sunday approaches, what can churches do?

Sight Loss Sunday, an annual awareness day for churches to celebrate blind and partially sighted members and make services more accessible, is on 11 October. Organized by the UK-based Torch Trust, the special day will explore the theme “ Who does God call?”

Sarah Dawkins, CEO of Torch Trust, reflected not only on Sight Loss Sunday but on the emerging technologies that enable production of more accessible resources.
“ The thing that has changed in the last year is that we have a whole library of Christian books for people to access—and we have managed to download that library onto an SD card,” she said.
What’s that mean? More portable and accessible versions of the Bible, for starters.
The Braille Bible, produced through a large embossing machine after being transcribed, is about 45 volumes of large, bound books. While a tremendous resource for blind people, it’s not very easy to carry around.
