Archbishop Stefan congratulated the staff of the Gomel Regional Librarytranslated

The book preserves the memory of the past, connects generations and helps to comprehend the experiences of those who lived before. The Day of Libraries, celebrated in Belarus on September 15, is dedicated to the work of people who cherish this heritage and open it to readers.

On September 15, 2026, His Eminence Stefan, Archbishop of Gomel and Zhlobin, took part in the festive event “Books have a church - a library,” which took place in the Gomel Regional Library.

Congratulating librarians on their professional holiday, Archbishop Stefan noted that the book helps to learn the history of one’s people, country and Church. Remembering the works of St. Nestor the Chronicler, the Bishop emphasized the importance of the written heritage, thanks to which evidence of the lives of previous generations is preserved. Appeal to this heritage helps a person to comprehend the experience of the past, draw moral lessons from it and choose what serves spiritual development.

The archpastor donated books to the library, including a publication with the author’s autograph for the museum of the author’s signature, as well as the diocesan calendar for 2027.
