174 years since the birth of St. Matrona from Hurezi, the pious woman who lived in the monastery from infancytranslated

Sunday marked the 174th anniversary of the birth of a saint: St. Matrona from Hurezi, the pious woman who grew up in the monastery from early infancy.

She was born on August 2, 1852 in Săliștea Sibiului, and her parents gave her the name Maria at Baptism.

Monastic vocation in the family Her father, the shepherd Nicolae, arrived with the flocks to the parts of the Holy Mountain, where he was ordained as a monk under the name of Nicodim. He was later ordained a hieromonk and lived near the Cell of the Holy Martyr Hypatius of the Ganges.

As a proof that the saintly vocation was inherited in this family, a grandson of the Holy Pious Matrona, father Teodosie Domnariu, arrived in the Holy Mountain and also lived at the Cell of Saint Hypatius, becoming abbot.

The Saint Ipatie's Cell houses the saint's correspondence with this grandson, valuable documents for the reconstruction of her biography.
