Today, 52 years have passed since that black day of the treacherous coup by the Junta of Athens and EOKA B. The Cypriot people, the Government, the Parliament and organized groups pay tribute to all those who lost their lives defending democracy and legitimacy. The heroic resistance of the legal forces of the state and hundreds of volunteer citizens who defended the Republic against the tanks of betrayal is commemorated today for another year.

At 8.20 in the morning, when the coup took place, sirens sounded in all the cities with the signal to start the alarm.

"Alexander entered the hospital" On the morning of July 15, 1974, the action of the military junta of Athens and its collaborators in Cyprus (EOKA B) culminated against the elected President of the Republic of Cyprus Archbishop Makarios G and aimed to overthrow the legitimate government. With this action, the back door was opened to the Turkish Attila and it gave Turkey the occasion and the opportunity, which it had been looking for for years, to promote its expansionist policy at the expense of Cyprus.
